Realities

I’m alive; I’m dead; I’m in heaven; I’m in hell; I never existed;
the world’s flat; a comet missed; dinosaurs lived but mammals didn’t;
gravity’s nonexistent; we’re floating into supernovas;
the moon’s the earth with continents and clouds;
Jesus help us – he was never born!
There is no Christianity or Judaism
or questions why we’re here;
kiss me – wait I’m made of gas!
If only we had hands to hold;
let’s watch sunrise through our nonexistent eyes
pretending there’s a sun to see;
it’s dying, it’s consuming everything –
we’re just a billion years too late!

Facebook Group

Dear readers,

I implore you to attend Don't Burn a Koran Day on Facebook. Though, it is a symbolic event it holds great importance. The overwhelming bigotry toward an entire faith in burning their sacred texts must be confronted. Every Muslim is being blamed for 9/11 by the people of the small Florida church, as well as in a Facebook group. It's tantamount to blaming all Christians for the slave-trade, or all Jews for killing Jesus.

We cannot led America explode into hatred and religious warfare. Don't listen to those who would have Christianity v. Islam. That is not the case, and it does not inevitably have to be.

As of now International Burn a Koran Day has 11,542 members to Don't Burn a Koran Day's 1,361.

We are better than that, America. Prove me right.

Owl Boy

I’ve never lived amongst
Nor seen great many
In the barns at night.

Yet, as the summer
Fades to autumn
I hear them calling hoo, hoo!

It’s melancholy and
It’s beautiful.

My senses trace
Their disembodied notes
To far off trees.

For that moment
As a gust of air
I fly with them.

My eyesight picks up
Mice and spiders.

I dive after them
As if my life depends
On catching food.

With wide wings spread
The length of the horizon
I fall wild and unrivaled.

Bats and branches
Part before me.

It’s moving –
Somehow religious even
Coming down from heaven.

Dusk shines color halos
On my neck – to make me
A nocturnal prophet.

The ground is fast
Approaching now.

Before I blink
It all goes blank
And deathly dark.

I can’t recall
What happened
As I’m broke.

My wings are bent;
My feathers dirty.

I cry out hoo, hoo!
Yet no one answers
Though I’m sure they hear.

Hunger sets in
While I fast, repent
For ecstasy.

My wails become
Both beautiful and tragic.

The rats, I thought
Might taste so grand
Now turn on me.

But, before I feel their bite
I’m home.

The owls’ cries
Are once more a
Disembodied fantasy.

Yet, what can I,
Who’s known the world,
Now take for granted?
Your turn :)

New Testament

A small Florida church plans to burn copies of the Quran
On the anniversary of the September 11.

The center calls itself New Testament,
Charismatic and Non-Denominational.

But have they ever read in the New Testament–
Blessed are the peacemakers?

Have they ever read –
Blessed are those who mourn,
(As Muslims lost lives on 9/11 too)

Have they ever read –
Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you
and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account?

Have they ever read –
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets?

Have they ever read, on the origin of Christmas –
There was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying,
'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.'"
I guess they haven't.

Thoughts on My Grandparent's House

I can still look out the window
And see grandfather working
With old tools – the names of which I can’t recall –
In the woodshed.

I can still taste Aquafresh
And smell the Marlboros
Mix with Folgers Coffee
In the morning.

I can still feel painted blocks
Near storybooks and board games
And imagine them as castles
In their bag.

I can still hear the conversations
I never understood in youth
Yet would interrupt to feel important
In the kitchen.

I can still remember laughter
As if it never left the walls
Or died with grandma
In the living room.
Sigh. It hurts to vent.
