Icarus

I spread out my wax wings
And flew away.

As foolhardy as it sounds
I headed for the sun.

There was only one place
Where it shone so bright;

Where darkness could not
Drag me down.

I took the chance
Of melted wings.

I risked the certainty
Of deadly sea.

Others might have flown
Down low for twenty years.

But I chose to live out my existence
In one grand climax of euphoria.

And as I fell, I had a memory
Worth dying for.
