Here & Now

Here and now,
while gone and later.
Skin, strong bones
give way to dust.

Brave, bold eyes
soon hollow sockets
without gaze or
wonderment.

I feel my cartilage
retract. Hairline
pulling back
to skull.

The essence
and the body
now some marker
on an unkempt lawn.

I want to be cremated and planted in the roots of a tree so I'll come back as a tree. I hope it works. LOL! Great write, Ben!!

  4. Ainnoa: Thank you. Just followed your blog :)

Marion: I like your annotations and date. You remember so much. But I thought for sure you'd come back as a dragonfly or moonflower ;)

Jack: I wanted to split it up the parts between personal and impersonal. Glad it resonates.

  5. I like this one. Right now in psychology we're talking about the thoughts of people with depression, and this sort of adds a new dimension to your poem. It's like the person with depression sees him/herself as someone here and gone at the same time. The difference comes in whether someone sees only himself like this or the entire human race.

  6. Ben, I thought of dragonfly or flower...but they're too ethereal. If I'm a tree, the dragonflies can rest in my branches and the Moonflowers can climb my trunk. You see, I've given this a lot of thought. LOL!

  9. Maria: Great insight :)

Marion: My only problem with being a tree is being so stationary.

Bethe: Aging's just another word for living. The process is a journey.

    Shauna: It really is ;)
