I was rejected in the mail today;
Disappointment etched upon a paper face.
As I read over the informal font
The apostrophes were rolling eyes.
Spaces separating letters grew
Distinct and wide like yawns.
There were no notes
But blankness spoke.
Crumpled edges of the envelope
Seemed to me assaulted dreams.
The clip they left, keeping all together
Is my parting gift.
