I began this poem thinking about a friend visiting the beach and how I haven't been there for some time. Then I ended thinking over my grandpa who is very sick and does not have much longer.
and it's been years
and it's been years
since I felt an ocean
wave pour over me,
the tide pull back my sorrow.
and it's been years
since I last saw the moon
reflect on water as the stars
swayed back and forth.
and it's been years
but I will close my eyes
to smell the salt and hear
a world crash down on me.
Dang.
ReplyDeleteThe word "powerful" gets overused on blog comments, I've noticed. It's fitting here, though. For sure.
Thanks, Jack.
DeleteMy thoughts and prayers are with your grandfather Ben...grandparents are so special.
ReplyDeleteThey are. Thank you OE.
DeleteSorry to hear about your grandfather. It's a shame that some of our best works are born from times of worry or grief.
ReplyDeleteSad but so true.
Deleteso deep and heartfelt. i feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteThanks, man.
DeleteI'm sorry about your grandfather Ben! Something about the ocean is so healing. I think it is the come and go nature of it....always rolling in and out mirroring life. Nothing is stangnant. Nothing stays forever. And yet the ocean has been here since the dawn of day. And perhaps will.
ReplyDeleteOr at least til this world rolls back into the ether.
