Breadcrumbs

Our bickering left breadcrumbs
That the other couples pecked
But couldn’t share.

Lightning struck a tree
And blocked the road;
I thought of you.

I counted snowflakes as they melted
On the ground in puddles
Like familiar tears.

Headlights only show more cloud in fog;
Truth we’re forced to live with.

  1. Awesome write, Ben. Heart-rendingly perfect.

    I like to leave red velvet cake crumbs when I'm in a strange forest. :-)

  3. Marion: It may not be the birds that are eating those breadcrumbs. Nom Nom Nom.

    Annie: Oh, truths. I think I miss fantasy though ;)
