swift electrons
do your dance around
the protons on the floor;
share your charge,
become as one.
somehow, two, three places
at a time– impossible but true.
so like me and you.
fireflies gather,
mate in moonbeams
from the starry sky.
millions, trillions, gazillions–
though it isn’t counted as a numeral
we need it with quintillion too;
so like me and you.
fingers, pulses shake or beat
depending on the rhythm in the air,
the chill or closeness that we feel.
one last melody might leave them blue;
so like me and you.
Down the Drain
We all go down the drain;
It’s just how long we’re circling
In filth before the fatal dive
Down leaky pipes to hell;
Rivers, lakes and oceans of vast
Nothing but more sewage.
Sickened fish; marred life,
Deformed, intoxicated
Greet us as the demons we created;
Neglected, tortured, molded
Into being less than nature,
More than us.

Well, as I have recently discovered, you can't neglect those demons. An exorcism is in order or it's glubba glubba glubba gulp. That drain has a voracious appetite! Nice poems Ben Ditty.
ReplyDeleteThank you Annie. It has felt glubba glubba gulp lately.
ReplyDeleteI like them both, Ben. The trick when you let the water out of the drain is to hold on to that little food catcher plug for dear life and not let go until the glug-glug part is over!! (By the way, I own a real bonafide exorcism book....it's a treasure I picked up at a book sale long, long ago...right of some Cat'lick bishops shelf, I like to imagine!) Hang in there...xo
ReplyDeleteBen would you shoot me an email @ ziggy101877@gmail.com I have an idea for you to consider maybe a spin on your last post, I would email you but every time I try my computer starts tweeking out...If you need some cheering up I can tell you about the last two and a half years of my life...
ReplyDeleteGuess the last comment didn't send. But thank you, Marion. I think I know how to control the glug glug better now ;) That book sure sounds awesome. I've got some books I'm proud of too. Not quite as cool as that though.
ReplyDeleteJust send you an email, Wander!
Both poems are nice :)
ReplyDeleteThe second is a little disturbing, Ben. But that first one is absolutely beautiful. It sounds like dancing...or ice skating ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shreya.
ReplyDeleteI guess the poems are opposites in a large way. A lot of good poetry is disturbing though. I'm rather disturbing myself. I'd like things to always be beautiful but it's just not reflective of life.
whoosh how I liked both of them! the first has an electric feel (no pun intended ha) - the electrons and all - "swift electrons
ReplyDeletedo your dance around
the protons on the floor;
share your charge,
become as one." - loved the second stanza of that one too - and then the second one was like a come down - I actually read it as one originally (I tend to forget titles ha) and was like ahh clever little spin off - the fireflies become sickened fish and the drain swirls - both of them - great stuff!
Ooo I love your analysis! Thank you so much, my beautiful readers. You're infinitely more creative than I :)
ReplyDeleteadore two poems, one man - a soft energy that
ReplyDeleteglows
Thank you so much, Shauna. Your comments are my soft energy that glows :)
